Question: A child with insomnia?my 3 1/2 year old daughter has a really hard time going to sleep. She doesn't throw temper tantrums she just can't seem to relax enough to go to sleep at night. I have tried elimnating naps, reading, relaxing music, etc, but she literally takes hours to fall asleep. I put her to bed about 8:30 and she lies awake until after 1 most nights. She also will wake up in between. Her doctor said although it isn't common, some children do suffer from insomnia. It's starting to affect her behavior I feel too since she's tired all day long. Has anybody else gone through this and if so, what did you do? Any ideas or shared experiences
Answer: i have an 11 year old who take meds or ADHD so it sometimes affects his sleep patterns. We give him Melatonin, we buy it at GNC. Our bodies naturally produce this but some people just don't produce enough. Check with your doctor first but it does help. Give it to her about a half hour before bedtime, it comes in a pill that can go under her tongue and dissolvesyes. been through it. son and daughter's families have been through it - and I fear probably many others, if not most other's, have also. It is trying and anxiety making. I guess you could try putting her to bed earlier - say 7!!! and have a nice peaceful 'quiet time' with her before hand - a cuddle and a story - or cbeebies on telly - maybe she could tell you a story? - could be diet too - chocolate or whatever e numbers stimulate her. it is worth checking out on these. Good luck. You certainly aren't alone.
