Question: A question about sleep centers\sleep studies, and whether this is insomnia?i understand that insomnia is difficulty either falling asleep, staying asleep, or with early waking. moreover, it is divided by how long it is a problem, the least being a few days, the most being three or more days a week sometimes.my problem is not being able to sleep at all for as much as sixty hours, it is this way all of the time and has been going on for months now. is this still insomnia, or something else?i've heard of things like sleep centers and sleep studies. but i don't know anything about them. is this something i could explore with my particular problem? what would it involve? how might it help?
Answer: A sleep study is to study your sleep. If you do not sleep, there is nothing to study or diagnose, and you have just wasted a huge amount of money. So doctors do not do sleep studies on insomniacs. You need to see a doctor and figure out why you can't sleep though. If the doctor can't help, see another one, and another, and another. I went through 6 doctors to find out why I couldn't sleep for 4 days at a stretch. One of them finally did their job realized that I had Grave's disease.
