Question: Tremors, nausea, insomnia, hot flashes?I have just had several things take place to me physically in the last week and a half. I have hypothyroidism and the doctor switched my prescription from Synthroid to Armour. I'm on day 7 of the Armour. I also had low testerone so he put me on testosterone also. 10 days ago I had a discogram plus a cortisone shot in my back. (This procedure was done because of injuries sustained in a car accident a year and half ago.) Are the symptoms I'm having which are noted above normal for all of the recent changes (include the procedure and injection) I've had in the last couple of weeks. Please note that the tremors I've had for several months now but in the past month they have gotten progressively worse to the point that people notice plus it's affected my handwriting.
Answer: The insomnia and hot flashes are pretty normal for someone with low testosterone who has just started testosterone supplementation. These side effects should pass within 2-3 weeks as your body gets used to the additional testosterone.I've used both Synthroid and Armour and neither had any bad side effects for me. If the nausea keeps up, ask your Dr for a thyroid recheck, which he should do after a month or two anyways. The discogram was probably very stressful and your body will need some time to calm down from this procedure. If I were you I'd be monitoring and keeping track of my BP and pulse a couple times a day. I'd find out whether I was in the normal range or not and also establish my normal resting BP and pulse rates. Then you'd have a better idea if your thyroid was off and if any of your meds might be contributing to your symptoms. My guess is that you will feel better in two weeks assuming you aren't getting too much thyroid.
