Question: Would A Sleep Apnea Machine Help For Asthma And Other Breathing Problems?Would A Sleep Apnea Machine Help For Asthma And Other Breathing Problems?
Answer: On the contrary Matt, C-pap is only used for sleep apnea. But the bipap is used for many different reasons. First of all Bi-pap is a set of two pressures. One consistant pressure on inspiratory (breathing in) and one lower consistant pressure for expiratory (breathing out). Thus helping a patient oxygenate and to help decrease the level of CO2 that appears in an ABG blood test. Chronic COPD patients, who have an exacerbation (worsening of) of COPD, will enter the ER with extreme breathing difficulty and the Bi-pap is our first line of defense in severe cases. Also pulmonary fibrosis pateints almost require the bipap at night and as needed through out the day. So yes a bipap will help with other breathing problems besides just sleep apnea!
