Question: Overnight Sleep clinics? (sleep apnea)? My father snored with occasional gasps for air. I snore, but can't say how often I gasp.My insurance info doesn't mention sleep clinics. Is it often covered by insurance? Is it expensive? What's it like... I need to hit the bathroom once an evening. Do you get to shave/wash up in the morning?
Answer: If your doctor orders you to have the test, your insurance should cover it as a medical necessity. If they won't you can always file a disagreement about it to try to get it covered. For a sleep study you will be hooked up to monitors which will measure everything to do with your respiration. No one is going to hover around the bed you are assigned watching you sleep. If you need to use the restroom they certainly will allow it. There is no problem washing and shaving in the morning either.Sleep apnea is a potentially life threatening situation either directly by not resuming your breathing or indirectly by causing accidents because of a lack of sleep.
