Question: What kind of doctor do I need to see for a sleeping disorder?I need to get back my sleeping pattern. I sleep no more than 3 to 4 hours and I wake up about 3 to 4 times with in those hours. I have tried everything recommended and nothing seems to work. I feel depressed and tired. I have no energy and eat at all hours of the night, so I've gained weight too. I need to see a doctor but don' t know if a reg. MD can help or if I need to see a specialist? I am also in school and under a lot of stress from that and, this coming up year I have a great deal taking place. Have had this sleeping problem for a couple of months now and I need to get back to where I was. HELP!!!! Are there any statistics?
Answer: The Dr you will need to see is a neurologist. But you must go to your regular internist first because most insurance companies require that. He will then send you to the specialist who will then send you to a sleep clinic or sleep lab where you will do a sleep study. Good Luck. A lot of people have your problem and it can be fixed.
